30 Countries Memoirs – Italy

Country: Italy

First Visit: May 2007

Number of Times Visited: 1

Cities Visited: Rome, Brindisi, Florence, Venice

Favorite Memory: Italy was a country of camping for us guys, staying in a combination of tents and trailers depending on the location, which was lots of fun.  In Rome when we arrived we got some very large beers and enjoyed those while trying to eat some incredibly hard bread which Tom said was some of the best bread he had ever eaten.

Other Highlights:

  • Walking through all of the ancient historical sites in Rome. The Coliseum, Pantheon, Palatine Hill, Trevi Fountain, etc.  Although the transit we had to take to get to those sites was somewhat frustrating.
  • We arrived in Venice in the middle of a downpour and instead of staying inside we decided to head out and try to find a highly recommended pizza joint. While hunting through the labyrinth that are the streets of Venice a gust of wind blew my recently purchased 5 Euro umbrella completely inside out.
  • Drinking boxed wine on the hills overlooking Florence with a couple of southern belles.
  • Walking through St. Mark’s square in Venice which actually had a few inches of water in it, while also watching crazy people let pigeons land on them for feeding.
